When to Hit in Blackjack

Undoubtedly, blackjack is one of the most popular online casino games. A simple and interesting game, a player needs to do is accumulate a hand of cards that sum up to 21. The objective is simple; create a hand of 21 or something close to that number. It is key to understand how to arrive to an amount of 21.

The game starts with the players being dealt two cards, 1 facing upwards and 1 facing downwards. The number of players at the table can vary but in blackjack 21, the players play strictly against the house and not with each other.

The trick part is this- staying under the amount of 21 without going bust. You can do this by counting your cards- keeping track of the cards that have been played since the deck was last shuffled. This strategy is useful to blackjack players with a 17 and who are looking to hit and need a small card to do this without going bust.

If a blackjack player has been counting cards then he can easily tell whether a lot of face cards or high cards have been played. If they have not been played, the player may want to thin k twice about hitting on their 17. What happens here is that the odds dictate that that there are still a number of high cards still in the deck and when a player with a 17 gets a high card he/she will go over 21. Should this happen, the player may flip over their cards and announce a bust - an admission of defeat in that particular round.

A player may have one of 2 kinds of 17's: a hard 17 and a soft 17.

A hard 17 is a hand without an ace and a soft 17 is a hand with an ace. An ace card may hold a value of 10 or 1 but this is at the player's discretion. A player also has a smaller chance of going bust with a soft 17.

It is also important to note that the rules on whether or not to hit on a soft 17 change from casino to casino so know the casino rules with regards to a soft 17's. If you have a bad combination that produces a low total value, you'd naturally want an extra card, and probably ask for a HIT.
